Best video games of all time.
I will start by saying the best games I have played have been in the COD or Battlefield division.
What are your thoughts?

I have the game, but not installed, and I am probably not very good at it any more. Maybe during the Chrissy holidays. Thats the time for rock and roll.

Re: Best video games of all time.
Loved AOE/AOE 2 as a kid.
I played C&C Red Alert 2 for a while and then got bored with it.
I used to enjoy COD and the Battlefield series.
(Well, I enjoyed the first COD and it's expansion, and I enjoyed Battlefield 1942 and Vietnam)
Then it all turned into "We won't bother with a decent single-player, because no-on ever plays single-player anymore"
I enjoy the Hitman series, with Blood Money being the best followed by Codename 47 then Silent Assassin then Contracts then Absolution.
(I have trouble even acknowledging absolution as part of the Hitman series it hurts that much)
Depending on the mood I'm in, my absolute favourite game alternates between Vietcong, Dethakrz, Powerslide, Geoff Crammond's GP4 and Serious Sam: The First Encounter
(And probably very many others - it's the same with music, I can't have one 'favourite song')

You either love C&C or you get bored with it fast. I was the latter.
AOE seemed to have something about it which drew people in better.

You can hardly say it's bad when you haven't played it.

Re: Best video games of all time.
One of the games I mentioned above - Powerslide - is basically not working on Windows 7.
It's a shame really, as it is one of the best Aussie games ever.
However, one of the people who have spent a lot of time fiddling with the game's exe to make it work recently put me onto a site called GOG.Com
There, they have tons of old games, all patched and ready to go for Windows 7.
I just bought Powerslide from them for $5.99 US (About $6.50 AUD), and it works like a charm. (There is some slight lag on some menu screens but not enough to make you walk away in frustration)
It's all DRM free (so you can pickup the installer and give it to as many friends as you want) and the use of their download client is OPTIONAL.
It's basically all the good stuff of Steam (cheap stuff now) without all the crap that comes with it (DRM, a stupid piece of compulsory software etc.)
If there are any PC games that you love that don't work on today's machines, have a look at their site and you may find what you're looking for.

I found Theme Hospital on that site. It was my favourite childhood game.

Hey does anyone make mods here (for AOE 2) I looked into it and it was really complicated just wanted to make a suggestion to anyone that wants to make a mod.

Re: Best video games of all time.
I played around with modding AOE2 once upon a time, but haven't for a long while now. (Much prefer AOE3 and EAW for ease of modding)
Speaking of EAW, if anyone here plays it they should check out my mod.

Re: Best video games of all time.
Just attempted to add a new unit, the instructions were vague and incorrect and out of date, and now I'm left with Aoe 2 conquerors that CRASHES. No thanks to age of kings heaven.

Re: Best video games of all time.
I never tried anything that complex, but instead focused on simple stuff.
(I increased the base ranged-attack range of the castles for one thing; It always seemed silly that I could use 40 Longbowmen to destroy a castle with no casulties)

Re: Best video games of all time.
I fixed it and it doesn't crash anymore.

Re: Best video games of all time.
I remember once playing online, but i had changed my settings so that my units took up zero population.
It worked. Don't know why...

Re: Best video games of all time.
Did you know there is a new official expansion for AOE 2. Its Age of Forgotten Empires, looks good it adds, Italians, Idians, Slavs, siege towers, fortresses and the population limit is increased to 1000! It was originally a mod that they turned into an official expansion, you can get it off steam as DLC or download it as the mod. I'm gonna get it.

You can't mention something that enticing without also adding a link.MrMew wrote:Did you know there is a new official expansion for AOE 2. That's like telling us we can eat a whole tub of ice-cream, but forgetting to mention that it is magic ice-cream that'll turn us into goats.
Re: Best video games of all time.
I think it might come as a CD like the other AOE2 expansions. Not the best setup.
